India skipper Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh recorded the highest-ever fifth wicket partnership in the history of T20 internationals as they added unbeaten 190 runs against Afghanistan in the third and final T20 international of the three-match series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17.
They broke the previous record held by Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee of Nepal by a handsome margin of 45 runs. The Nepalese pair had added 145 against Hong Kong in Mulpani in October 2023. Highest fifth-wicket partnership in T20Is.
This stand of 190 was also the highest partnership for any wicket for India in T20is, surpassing the previous best stand of 176-run stand between Deepak Gooda and Sanju Samson, achieved in 2022 against Ireland. Samson and Hooda had added 176 for the second wicket. Thanks to this stand by Rohit and Rinku, India managed to move from 22/4 in 4.3 overs to 212/4 in 20 overs. On their way, they also smashed Afghanistan’s Karim Janat for 36 runs in the 20th over, which is also the joint most number of runs conceded by a bowler in an over in T20Is.
